An eastbound Conrail freight, led by 3319, 3193, and 3354 and received from the BN, crosses the South Branch of the Chicago River and the Illinois Central at 21st Street Crossing in February 1989. This spot used to be a railroad hotspot back in the 50's and 60's during the glory years of passenger service as you could sit here and see any number of passenger trains go by back then(like the Broadway Limited, 20th Century Limited, Super Chief, and City of New Orleans to name a few). Today it just sees the passage of a few freight trains along with all the Amtrak movements in and out of Chicago Union Station. Doug Davidson photo with permission
