Conrail Survivors (Post 1999)

Surviving Conrail Facilities

This gallery contains Conrail facilities that remain under new ownership.

Surviving Conrail Passenger Service

When NJ Transit assumed control of all passenger operations in NJ from Conrail on January 1, 1983, a number of predecessor road passenger equipment and locomotives remained active for many years.

Surviving Conrail Cabooses

Even though Cabooses had fallen from widespread use by the end of Conrail, a number have survived in yard and local service for CSX and NS. Others have also moved into private hands.

Surviving Conrail OCS Equipment

Most of Conrail's OCS fleet went to NS and CSX, and the two railroads now use them as part of their own OCS trains.

Surviving Conrail MOW Equipment

Here you can see the Conrail MOW equipment that still survives under new ownership as they work on for NS and CSX.

Surviving Conrail Freight Cars

Conrail's freight cars now mostly work for their new owners. See them under NS and CSX ownership in this gallery.

Surviving Conrail Locomotives

This gallery contains Conrail's locomotive fleet split up in the 58:42 ratio between NS and CSX as well as Regionals, Short Lines and Industrial owners.
