EMD SW1 - Page 2

EMD's early switcher offering, a 600 horsepower unit was first offered in 1939. Conrail inherited almost 200 of these units from PC, RDG, CNJ and LV. They were some of the earliest 'victims' of retirements, all being gone from the roster by 1984. While a large number of them were scrapped, some went to Amtrak while others found new life on some Conrail lines that were created during the early 1980's line abandonments.
