On the way back to the motel, we ran into this guy in Canaseraga. The shadows had already overtaken the area, so I thought if the train and I both hurried back up to Dalton, we might catch the last rays. JUST made it!

A grubby 1953 leads eastbound tonnage splitting the signals near MP 139 in Hinsdale, MA. on May 17, 1980. Note the white spots on the signal targets at right, these are sighting holes used to "line-sight" the signal heads so that engineers of oncoming trains see them clearly. They don't call this type of signal a "searchlight" for nothing. They project a relatively narrow beam, which is readily visible in a photograph of them taken at night with a little fog, so they have to be set correctly to "catch the eye".

B23-7 2012 on, what I believe, is NHSE at Springfield station. The NHSE/SENH turns had a caboose at each end of the train, note the buggy behind the power in this shot. This facilitated the reverse/run-around move the trains had to make in both directions at Springfield because of the track layout.

Former CR 2798, the "last U-Boat", now works for the Railroad Museum of New England on it's Naugatuck RR between Waterbury and Torrington, CT. Still wearing it's P&W colors and number, the 2798/2203 is handling a work extra on June 29, 2004.
