Conrail in North Jersey

North Jersey is home to a myriad of rail operations, and is one of the few locations where Conrail still exists.

Following the 1983 transition of Conrail passenger operations from contract by NJDOT to operation by NJ Transit, the unit was renumbered to NJ Transit 4151.

CR E-8A 4022 is hooked up with one of the four newly arrived E-8A's to the NJDOT South Amboy engine terminal. Now numbered 4332, the E-8A along with her three SR sisters were formerly assigned to the Southern's flagship passenger train the Southern Crescent.

Two CR predecessors meet nose to nose at South Amboy, NJ in June, 1980. Former PRR E-8A 5836 meets EL E-8A 833, but now it's NJDOT 4246 faces CR 4022. The ex-PRR unit would last another two years before retirement while the EL E-8A still had a storied CR career through the 90's.
