To support CR-operated commuter operations in NJ, CR lettered former EL SW-9 438 as NJDOT 438 rather than 9014 for the CR roster. The former EL SW-9 waits in the service line at Elizabethport, NJ in November, 1978.
The April, 1952-built SW-9 served NJDOT until transferred to NJ Transit following cessation of CR-operated passenger operations on January 1, 1983. The ancient SW-9 survives as part of the United Rairoad Historical Society museum roster after donation by NJ Transit in 1995.
