Conrail 797000 is seen at Hollidaysburg, PA. This was the first prototype Container Direct flatcar, which was intended to divert shipments of bulk commodities back onto rail from truck-dominated markets. This car was built in 1986 and was tested to ship anthracite culm from north-central PA to Scott Paper's new cogeneration facility in Chester, PA. Scott was pleased with the concept, but required a larger container payload. This requirement led to the construction of CR 797001 at Hollidaysburg in 1988.
