CR 5432
Conrail 5432 is a former New York Central GP7, upgraded to a GP8 status. This fact hinted at, by the small hinges along the edges of long hood's mid-section, that supported access doors that provide easier removal, of the cylinders from the engine block, for future, heavy-maintenance procedures. Like the Pennsy, Central operated its road switchers, long-hood first, with the exception of those built for the Central's Buffalo-Detroit, Canada Southern line, in Ontario. Nor did Central, or its subsidiaries, order its Geeps with dynamic braking, as only those intended for toting iron ore, unloaded from Lake Boats at Ashtabula, Ohio, being so-equipped.
