Surviving Conrail 86' Boxcars

Class B83A

The B83A class of hicubes were built new for Conrail as CR 297601-297912 by Greenville Steel under order number 1156, starting in April of 1978. Almost 70 cars would be renumbered into the CR 243101-243596 series and another 7 cars were renumbered into the CR 297350-297356 series. The B83As were originally assigned to serve Ford Motor Co. in auto parts service, according to Conrail mechanical drawings.

Class BD83E

Conrail's BD83E class is composed of a group of former D&RGW cars built by Thrall.

Class BE83A

The BE83A class of hicubes were built as EL 92000-92099 by Greenville Steel in 1965 under order number 867. Cars were renumbered to CR 237002-237122. Number series not solid as cars were renumbered around PC cars.

Class BE83B

The BE83B class was built as EL 92100-92242 by Greenvill Steel in 1966 under order number 890. Cars became CR 237123-237367and the series was not solid as the cars were renumbered around PC cars.

Class BE83D

The BE83D class was built as EL 92270-92282 by Greenville Steel in 1970. Cars became CR 237411-237471. Car series not solid as the cars were renumbered around PC cars.

Class X60N

The X60N class of hi-cubes were built as PC 295170-295439 by Thrall in 1969 and became CR 295170-295439. Most cars have been renumbered into the CR 242200 & 243000 series. See the X60N roster for the cars renumbered into their new number series.

Class X60P

The X60P class was built by Pullman Standard in 1969 as PC 295440-295552. Cars became CR 295440-295552. Some cars would be renumbered into the CR 240700 series.

Class X60S (NYC Lot 962B)

The X60S class was built in 1965 by Greenville Steel as NYC 67126-67280 Lot 962B. 72 cars carried their NYC numbers to Conrail and numbered into the CR 293090-293203 series. 80 cars were renumbered by PC as 293126-293280 then becoming CR 293126-293280. The cars that carried their NYC number directly to Conrail were renumbered around the cars that got PC'ed and then CR'ed. Also some cars were renumbered into the CR 242700 series.

Class X67

Built by PC's Samuel Rea Shops in 1970.
