OIBU with a pair of 40's, one an SD, the other a GP, wait for a commuter train at Port Jervis before heading to Sparrow Bush and the Delaware Division. They won't see Binghamton til long after dark today. The signal is the distant board for BC, where the double track through town goes to single as it climbs toward Otisville.

Two EMD's and a GE roll 78 cars of ML 401 past one of Erie's classic semaphores between Barton and Waverly. It was near this point that the former LV Auburn Branch crossed under the Erie to reach Sayre.

C30-7A 6550 with SENE passing the HBD/DED at MP 135 (Ballou's) in Washington, MA. on Oct. 9, 1997. This detector always identified it's location as "Becket, MA." even though it is in Washington. That is because the nearest "station" is North Becket/MP 134, just a mile to the east. Washington "station" is over 2 1/2 miles to the west.

C30-7A 6567 leads a three unit set of light engines westward near MP 129. The engines are exiting Middlefield and will enter Becket when they cross the Westfield River (foreground). Note the stone arch bridge at right which aptly shows the origional right-of-way bypassed by the present one in 1912. Signal 129.02 displays the most permissive aspect of the downgrade signals on Washington hill..G/G. This allowed for more varied aspects to be shown to downgrade trains, affording them a look further out ahead. The upgrade signals, with yellow "G", showed G/R as their most permissive aspect.

BUOI waits in the siding at CP CAM, the east end of the siding at MP 318, just west of the River Rd crossing. He'll be meeting TV207X here shortly, then roll down the Canisteo valley to his next stop at Gang Mills. Also in consist is CR 5002 and SSW 9058, the latter a dead in tow unit going for a rebuild.

Westbound PWSE splits the block signals on "the ramp" nearing the bottom of the west slope of Washington hill in Pittsfield, MA. on Aug. 20, 1987. The 1.4% grade at this point will bottom out to dead level about a half mile further on.

CR 6590 leads NHSE at the Middlefield/Becket town line near MP 129 on Oct. 12, 1984. The C30-7A's were barely four months old on this gorgeous fall morning.

C30-7A 6591 is just a few months old as it leads NHSE around the curve coming into Bancroft, MA. on Nov. 2, 1984.

Only a few months old at the time, a trio of "Camels" led by the 6611, bring NHSE around the horseshoe between MP 128 and 129. In just a moment the head end of the train will be entering Becket, while the first half is in Middlefield and the rear half is still in Chester. Of note, is that most of what is pictured here no longer exists, except for the railroad itself. The C32-8's are a memory, block signal 129.02, it's relay cabinet, and the code line disappeared in the late '80's when the B&A was single-tracked. Gone also are the dragger, flange lubricator, and the conical concrete signal base which was one of many installed by the Penn Central in an aborted plan to re-signal the B&A.

C32-8 6611 leads another set of light engines westward near Bancroft (Middlefield station) on Nov. 29, 1985. Signal 130.42 is the next signal west of signal 129.02 seen in the photo of light/engines 6567 west.

The 6612 leads NHSE around the horseshoe and past block signal 129.02 at the Middlefield/Becket town line on May 10, 1985.

CR 6613 and mates have made a quick turn-around and return westward with PWSE, passing through CP 64 in East Brookfield, MA. at 15:39 on June 20, 1987.
