The two RSD's would become MT-6's 1125 (6812) and 1126 (6816) and go through multiple re-numberings under NS, 1125 to NS 1114, then 985, then eventually to RPU6 851. Conrail GP38-2 rests between assignments 8096 at Conrail's Ashtabula, Ohio "AY" West Yard. The building to the right and the tower are long gone, and I believe this is the only photo I have showing either structure. I wasn't bright enough to capture much more than trains for the most part.

On October 1st, 1981 the Detroit Terminal RR was merged into Conrail. Twenty days later on Oct 20th, 1981 we find several ex DT switchers lined up behind the P1A shop in Collinwood,Ohio. DT 104, 112, 106, CR 8881, and DT 109 add yet another paint scheme to the Conrail rainbow. DT 104 would become CR 9195 and work the Cleveland area yards before being sold to a private operator.

CR 9257 at Hartford, CT. in 4/1979.

NW2 9257 at Hartford, CT. in April, 1979. Considering that NW2 production ceased in 1949, this old goat was at least 30 years old when the photo was taken.

CR 9531 Enola, PA 1-1-1986

Conrail SW1500 is seen sitting at Enola Yard in 1986. What is probably the most interesting part of this photo is what appears to be CR 7440, the "torpedo-tube" GP9 in blue paint without and logos sitting third deep in line, behind SW8 8673.This unit had previously been one of the few Conrail units that had its bell and horns painted red, along with black battery boxes and side sills, indicating it was restricted to service in Canada only. Stuff like this is what makes Conrail a fascinating road to model.

CR 9562 Rochester, NY 3/18/1979

A variety of small units get serviced at Rochester. Most of these engines would work the branches in the area, except the SW-1500s which would usually switch the yard.

CR engine terminal Bethlehem, PA 12-17-1988

Far from the busy early days of Conrail in 1977, the Bethlehem engine terminal and yard appeared almost unused in December, 1988.

Although the timeless steam-era coaling tower remains along with a few gondolas, all the LV Cornell red switchers and Alcos are long gone.
