MOW Passenger Car Equipment

Some passenger and baggage cars transferred to Conrail remained in MOW service for several years.

This former PRR baggage car sat for many years at the east end of Colehour Yard, along side of Indianapolis Blvd. This photo was made in March 1982. On the first day of the 44-day Septa TWU strike in 1977, numerous CR equipment was mixed in with Amtrak units at 30th Street Station.

Former PC 9140 baggage car rested on the tracks behind Amtrak GG-1 4939 (ex-PC 4939, nee-PRR 4927).

The former PRR GG-1 4927 was not scrapped after retirement by Amtrak in 1980. The unit was repainted in 1999 and preserved at the Illinois Railway Museum in Union, IL.

Former PC 9140 baggage car rested on tracks beside an Amtrak E-8A, a quartet of GG-1's led by 926 (ex-PC 4933), and E-60's 970 and 973.

PRR 493157 is seen at Altoona, PA on 1/26/99. Car is ex PRR 8666 in 10-23 and carried the name "Lake Merritt" and was converted to MOW service by the PRR in Jan of 1967.

PRR 493731 is seen at Columbia PA on 11/22/97. Car is ex PRR 8916, built 4-25 and carried the name "Retort" while on the Pennsy. Pennsy coverted this Pullman into MOW service in May of 1966.

The Tuscan red is a bit faded, but the Keystone's are still clear on PRR baggage car 9237 at Enola in May, 1977.  The car may be whitelined, but still appears used by CR for MOW.

Appearing forgotten behind PC E-8A 4092 in the Juniata deadlines, rests an unidentified PRR MOW passenger car in August, 1978.
