GE C30-7A - Page 5

GE built 50 C30-7A's for Conrail in 1984.  A variant of the C30-7, this 12-cylinder version produced the same 3,000hp as the C30-7 V16.  Conrail assigned them CR series 6550-6599.

TV9 with the 6577 head out exits the west portal of State Line Tunnel on a track that is long gone.

BUOI waits in the siding at CP CAM, the east end of the siding at MP 318, just west of the River Rd crossing. He'll be meeting TV207X here shortly, then roll down the Canisteo valley to his next stop at Gang Mills. Also in consist is CR 5002 and SSW 9058, the latter a dead in tow unit going for a rebuild.

BUOI gets underway from CP CAM after meeting TV 207X. The Cotton Belt SD 45 is dead in tow. View is from River Road, which at this point is across the river and a field from the tracks for about a mile. It will cross back over and stay on the opposite side of the railroad into Addison.

CR 6578 Leads SEPY on CSX Out of Baltimore, 6/89

A C30-7a leads a westbound (geographically southbound) SEPY (Selkirk - Potomac Yard) under Washington Boulevard, just west of Baltimore on CSX. The tail end is passing under the CPLs of HX Interlocking in Halethorpe. This train may look like the southbound juice train, but that's because it usually carried a number of empty cars back south for more OJ.

Originating in Selkirk (SE), SEPY often had GEs on it, along with empty tropicana cars. Here it is passing through the unused station in Elkridge MD on CSX as their train B417.

CR 6580 C30-7A Akron 10-94

The last thing I expected to see on EMD pure Wheeling and Lake Erie was a big Conrail GE, especially on the former AC&Y lines. In October 1994 Conrail C30-7A 6580 lead an eastbound into Brittain yard in Akron, Ohio, passing some other WE power waiting in the clear. The W&LE is only 4 years old at this point, so none of the power is wearing the company colors yet. I'm standing right at the edge of the turntable. CR 6580 would become NS 8098, but only work a short time for it's new owner.

SEPW's head end passing LORAM rail grinder RG-17. The RG-17 had been working in the area and had to duck into the Hinsdale team track to clear up for traffic, including SEPW. After SEPW passed, RG-17 went back out and continued profiling track 2 around the summit area, a couple of miles to the east.
