GE C30-7A - Page 2

GE built 50 C30-7A's for Conrail in 1984.  A variant of the C30-7, this 12-cylinder version produced the same 3,000hp as the C30-7 V16.  Conrail assigned them CR series 6550-6599. 

CR 6553 Leads SENS (aka CSX Z409) Through Elkridge MD, 6/90

Looking like the Juice Train, SENS (Z409 on CSX's rails) heads through the S-curve of Elkridge PA on CSX's Capitol Subdivision. This train carried many empty tropicana cars heading back south for more OJ.

Bomb cars and CDOT "Metropolitan" EMU's often made the trek over the Boston line, either being delivered or going to and from off line repairs or upgrades.

TV-6 tops the grade at MP 142 in the center of Hinsdale, MA. on Dec. 20, 1986. If the "face" of the 6557 looks a little "strange", that's because it's had the cab and nose from a standard C30-7 grafted on after rear-ending a TV-6 a year earlier. The 6557 leads NHSE at the "art colony", crossing the Westfield River and entering Middlefield from Chester, MA. On May 28, 1986. The location's name came from Railroad employees in reference to an abandoned avant-garde house which fell into ruin off to the left in the photo about 60 years ago.
