EMD SD35

Conrail received 52 EMD SD35's to their roster in April, 1976.  The Penn Central provided 40 units in series 6000-6039. and the Central Railroad of New Jersey provided 12 units in series 6040-6051.

EMD's SD35, built between June 1964 and January 1966 produced 2,500hp by an EMD 567D3A 16-cylinder prime mover.

CR SD-35 6003 leads ex-LV C628 6728 and two ex-PC C425's, 2423 and 2418, as they pound their way toward the Curve.

A pair of ex-PC C425's, 2423 and 2418, follow ex-LV C628 6728 and lead SD35 6003 as they pound toward Horseshoe Curve.

The C628 and two C425's in the consist were put together earlier in the day at Enola to head toward Conway.

SD35 6003 heads an impressive line-up of power on eastbound tonnage at mile 136.3 in Washington, MA. sometime in June, 1979. Exact location is known because of signal bases either side of the 6003 which once supported outward facing semaphores.

A ground shaking rumble in Harrisburg revealed 10 CR units pulling freight on a dark July, 1977 day! Rolling quickly through, I was only able to capture the first seven black and blue units in one picture!

The entire consist included leading unit CR SD-45 6163 followed by SD-35 6009, an unidentified third unit, GP-38-2 8090, PC U25B 2636, GP-38-2 8124, SD-40 6288, SDP-45 6696, GP-38 7806, and trailing SDP-45 6697.

While the attention of the crowd at the Curve on May 22, 1977 was focused on the arrival of RDG 4-8-4 #2102 coming from Altoona, a pair of SD35's rolls mixed freight down the Curve.

CR SD35's 6030 and 6018 appear to have an interesting load of new 1977 International Harvester trucks tucked in behind.
